A trip to stunning, one-of-a-kind Bali deserves a mouth-watering, memorable dining experience, which is why I made it a point to visit SugarSand at Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach, an IHG hotel. The gorgeous, serene, waterfront restaurant features Japanese-Indonesian fusion cuisine and went far above and beyond my expectations. A thoroughly luxurious experience from entering the restaurant to the last bite of my unforgettable meal. I will absolutely return to try everything on the menu.
Spectacular Ambiance
It’s impossible to discuss SugarSand at Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach without mentioning its unparalleled ambiance. The beachfront property is situated on the edge of the sublime Bali Seminyak beach – a part of the rich, exciting, ever-evolving environment of Double Six Beach. Here, I felt a part of the vibrance and vitality of life while still experiencing the blissful peace of the rolling waves, lush palm trees, and salty sea air. Abundant outdoor seating allowed me to take it all in from my perch above the sand and water.
I also noticed an array of casual but intimate seating areas near the private pool for friends and families to enjoy nibbles and drinks, and poolside lounging is also available. What struck me most was the elegant, seamless way in which the indoor bar and dining areas connected in with the outdoor environment for a perfect flow.
With a signature Hotel Indigo Bali aesthetic and appeal, SugarSand is all about offering luxury in a way that allows for total relaxation. To me, this location was the epitome of a decadent vacation. I’ve never experienced anything quite like it.
First-Class Service
Every person I encountered with warm and welcoming, ready to demonstrate world-class Bali hospitality. This wasn’t too surprising, considering that all of the hotel staff I have encountered at Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach (and any IHG hotel is genuine, kind, and caring.
I was greeted by Vania and Redream, who took me to my roomy table near the outdoor pools. All of the amazing waitstaff, including Riska welcomed me and explained the Japanese-Indonesian fare to me so I felt comfortable navigating the menu. They also provided me with tips for making the most of my time in Bali.
Skilled bartenders prepared cocktails and drinks to order with flare. Dishes were delivered quickly and with care, and my glass always remained full. Just as every other aspect of Hotel Indigo Bali, the service at SugarSand is exquisite.
The restaurant manager Arya Lantara checked on me to ensure I was enjoying my time at the restaurant. All in all, I felt welcomed and cared for from start to finish.
Starter
Although I was tempted by the cured salmon tosada, roast octopus, and salt and pepper calamari, I decided to try a few popular appetizers for Japanese food lovers. I ordered the salmon sushi, popcorn shrimp, and crab salad. This allowed me to connect with several authentic, Japanese-Indonesian fusion options. Each was more delicious than the next! I’m also excited to mention that these options came from a list of new menu teasers. Just as Double Six Beach and Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach are constantly growing, changing, and evolving to new and exciting things, so is the SugarSand menu working to stay fresh and vital.
Main Dish
While nibbling on my appetizer dish, I began to consider my options for a main dish. I noticed an internationally inviting array of dishes ranging from beef wagyu and US Prime T-bone steak to a vegetarian quinoa bowl, Pan Roasted Fish, Charcoal Chicken, Chifa Fried Rice, Spaghetti Carbonara, and flavor-packed wok dishes, among others. It was difficult to decide from the many incredible options!
In the end, I decided to order the prime rib cooked medium with Bernaise sauce, which came with a crunchy combination of sweet potato, potato and onion (all fried). What a delightful treat that was! The fried veggies were the perfect accompaniment to the tender, succulent prime rib. Per my server’s suggestion, I started with the Negroni in order to stimulate my mouth and prepare it for the mouth-watering food.
As I waited for my order, I enjoyed free wifi, watched hotel guests make the most of the poolside bar, and took in the incredible views and all the amenities the Hotel Indio Bali has to offer. Speaking of the hotel bar, I also decided to order a Tropikala cocktail which was absolutely sublime. And while I was able to experience an amazing lunch along Seminyak beach and the secret garden pool within the Seminyak beach resort, I was also informed that Hotel Indigo Bali offers a tempting buffet breakfast and room service, too.
Incredible Flavors
I was blown away by every exquisite bite of my meal. Chef Rizal is truly amazing at creating a Japanese-Indonesian fusion that delights. The foods prepared to perfection were aesthetically beautiful and packed with succulent flavor. I savored each taste as I enjoyed the casual sophistication of the restaurant, beachside lounge, and main pool. It is the perfect atmosphere for allowing yourself to fully succumb to “vacation mode” and total relaxation while people-watching and experiencing the splendor of Seminyak beach.
Dessert
Because I took my time, I was able to save room for a delectable dessert. Sorbet, cake, and brownies are on the menu, but I found myself in heaven with the Green Tea Tiramisu, served with authentic, local Bali coffee. It was the perfect way to end my meal at this fabulous IHG hotel.
Utter Relaxation
Hotel Indigo Bali Seminyak Beach is stunning in every way, and SugarSand honors this IHG hotel with its offerings. Although the hotel itself offers a complete amenities package, the restaurant alone is a paradise for travelers. Genuine service makes it easy for you to kick back and unwind as you allow the favors to wash over you and enjoy a handmade cocktail from the pool bar or lounge. Watch the waves crash upon the shore of the beloved Bali Seminyak beach from comfortable indoor or outdoor dining, or from an intimate, poolside conversation pit. When you’re done eating, you’re walking distance to the water where you can splash and play, or take a stroll along the sand to nearby attractions like Seminyak village shopping mall without a care in the world.
